Most of our siding customers also ask about their roofs. It’s a natural progression to ask about a roofing company if you are getting your siding redone. We venture to say that about half of roofing companies also do siding, but that less than half of siding companies do roofing. That may be a bit confusing, but you get the drift.
Since we have been working with siding, roofing, and window companies, we wanted to get some expert advice about what our readers should look for in a great roofing company. We contacted this Fort Collins Roofing company to find out more. Should you be in need of a great roofing contractor, ask us about who we recommend – we will be able to point you in the right direction.
Every roofing company should be able to:
- Offer three different kinds of shingles. Asphalt, Metal, and Tile. If they only offer asphalt, make sure that they are reputable, and they know what they are doing. When we encounter roofing companies that either don’t have workers that don’t install metal or tile shingles, we want to know if they are true experts in their field.
- All shingle manufacturers now offer lifetime warranties for their shingles, but does the roofing company you are going to hire actually have warranties for their work. Shingle manufacturers won’t cover water damage if a shingle is not the cause of it. For example, if a roofer does not place flashing on the right part of the fascia, this can lead to leaking into your boards. Also, if your gutters are not replaced the right way, this can cause water to leak in. Make sure that the roofer you are hiring has a warranty, and they are going to honor it.
- Speak with your insurance company. Most of the time, roof replacements will go through an insurance company because replacing a roof without any insurance can be very expensive. If you have had hail damage on your roof recently, you surely have to speak with your insurance company to have them cover the damage to your roof. Roofers and insurance companies work so well together because they are helping each other make money on claims.
- Get the job done in less than 3 days. If you are hiring a roofer that has a crew, and I mean more than one person to help them, they should have the entire roof torn off your home in less than a day, and the new roof put up in less than 2 additional days. You don’t want to be waiting around for a roofer to perform the work, and they are taking longer than 3 days to complete a job.
Here’s an example of water damage that could be caused by a roofer not doing their job.
As you can see, the drywall is peeling back on the inside of this home, which is due to the roof not holding the water back enough. Flashing is a very important task for any roofers job, but some roofers completely forget to do that part before they say they are finished.
Roofing companies that are doing a poor job generally can cause homeowners to pay for more fixes that they would have prevented had they done their job correctly in the first place.
Roofers, Siding companies, and Window companies need to all work together to make sure that all areas are properly sealed before completing a job.
Lastly, if you are going with T1-11 siding, make sure that your roofing company matches the paint that you will be adding to your home with the color of the shingle they are adding. We have seen it too many times where a roofing company and the siding company don’t match the shingles, and the paint doesn’t match the shingle color.
